Physical therapy and the restaurant industry

Restaurant workers are often resilient when it comes to work place injury. Two-thirds of industry injuries do not result in missed work days according to the national restaurant association. However, the progression of injuries that are kept at bay by Aspirin and adrenaline are tougher to measure and easiest to ignore. We want to help you decrease the need for over the counter meds and get to the root of your pain.

Musculoskeletal pain (low back, knee, foot, neck, shoulder) is the lead cause of occupational illnesses (Abdelsalam et al, 2023). 91% of industry workers reported some sort of musculoskeletal pain within the last 12 months. Physical Therapists specialize in musculoskeletal pain!

Additionally, more than 40% of employees report low back pain in a recent 2022 study from Yalew et al. Predisposing factors included standing for long periods, performing repetitive tasks and muscle strain during long shifts over a significant time. While there is no avoiding these tasks for restaurant workers, rehab can aide in the prevention and improvement of low back pain.
