Postpartum physical therapy
After a total hip replacement or lumbar fusion, physical therapy is required the day of surgery.
After an ACL repair or rotator cuff surgery, physical therapy is required within the first few weeks.
After birth, moms are advised to wait 8–12 weeks before returning to physical activity.
We want to change this standard; postpartum physical therapy should be recommended for all new moms.
Just like any other procedure, giving birth changes the body. Physical therapy can assist with adapting to those changes and help moms feel comfortable moving early on.
Movement will look different postpartum, but it can still be done safe and effectively.
Moms are not fragile, and we need to change that narrative. They deserve more, let them be in charge of telling us what they need instead of us telling them. Check out our most recent instagram reel here
Physical therapy after birth will look different for each person. We will work on pelvic floor musculature, any discomforts you may be experiencing, scar tissue (from perineal tearing or c-section scars), returning safely to exercise and many other things!
